🔧 Netflix Lists $900k AI Job (During Actors AI Strike)

Actors and writers have been on strike recently - picket signs and everything. They want better wages, and on top of that, they’re brutally stressing over AI stealing their jobs and likeness.
But, Hollywood is doubling down on pursuing AI advancements. Netflix is dishing out a handsome $900k/year for an AI product manager role.
To make matters worse for actors, a company called Realeyes is offering $300 for actors to help train AI on human emotion. Sounds like some good ol’ Black Mirror vibes. We’ve seen a lot of that recently.
Here’s why it’s important: Initially when I heard about the strike, I thought to myself, “Stop. Actors make millions a year. It’ll all be solved somehow.” Then I read more about it.
This isn’t about the BIG actors. It’s about the ones we’ve never heard of. The average actor in the union makes $26,000 a year. And now, they have to deal with this crap, stressing head over heels that their jobs will be stripped away by an AI clone of them.
I don’t have a solution, but what I do know…
Is Netlfix has some balls for putting up that job post in this climate - and they’re getting the backlash they probably expected.

🤖 Stability AI Release SDXL 1.0, Rivaling Midjourney

Stability AI has launched one of the most exciting advancements in AI that has happened over the past few months.
Now, you might be thinking, “It’s just another text-to-image generator. There’s a ton of those.” And you’d be right in your assumption. Well… half right.
So far, Midjourney has by far been the leader in the text-to-image space. And to this point, it’s made every other text-to-image company look like a drawing that children bring home from school - it’s cute, you’re proud, but you can’t compare Picasso to some scribbles with a crayon.
But, Stability AI has proven they’re not just scribbling with crayons, they’re the real deal.
It’s actually the largest open image model, even larger than Midjourney, with a total parameter count of 3.5 billion. For all the non-tech nerds out there, that means it has more data to be trained on, which leads to huge potential for how good it can be.
My take: With all the crappy text-to-image out there, SDXL 1.0 is shockingly good. I can’t wait to try it out and see what others are able to produce with it in the next coming weeks.
