Zoom Unveils And Upgrades New AI Features
Zoom's got some big announcements for us this week. They've spiced up their AI-powered features, relaunching the once-called "Zoom IQ" as "AI Companion."
It’s coolest feature? A ChatGPT-esque bot for direct chats with the AI. Users can ask it about past meetings, draft responses, even get real-time meeting feedback.
AI summarizations? Zoom will have that as well, along with a Team Chat.
Yes, you'll have to pay for these features, but it sounds like it’s definitely worth it.
My guess is they’re doing this as a result of their recent financial struggles. They recently had a $108M loss and a major staff cut.
Zoom is putting a huge bet down on this move, and they need it to pay off big.

Microsoft Is Creating An AI-Powered… Backpack?
Microsoft has recently filed a patent for an AI-powered backpack. Yes, a backpack.
It sounds pretty strange, but it’s super cool. Check this out.
So, the backpack can hear and see everything you can. It can identify objects around you, give you directions, access the cloud, and connect with your phone.
In the example they show in their patent above, they show a skier talking to the backpack and using it to help navigate what area is out of bounds.
As crazy as it all sounds, it actually makes a lot of sense.
As we move into a world where personal AI systems are helping us with pretty much everything we do, there needs to be a hardware layer where we can actually interact with AI in the real world.
⭐️ So, while Apple seems to be focused on their AR goggles as their main piece of hardware, Microsoft could be moving towards things like backpacks and other wearables.
As much as this is the real life version of the backpack in Dora the Explorer, wearable tech is definitely wear big tech is headed on the consumer side because, at the end of the day, the winner of the personal AI race will be whoever owns the hardware.
Quick Bites (News)
While it’s no surprise to see Twitter (I refuse to call it X) tapping into it’s data goldmine for AI gains, leveraging user info is sure to cause some ethical unease — and could fuel even more anti-AI sentiment with added privacy concerns.
Researchers have created an AI model that can predict how a chemical will smell just from its molecular structure, matching human testers. In a wave of new tech advances, smell seems like one area flying under the radar — until now. From the looks of this study, AI could be sniffing its way to new innovations in the near future.
First, it was deemed as a threat to education itself...but now, AI's becoming a classroom hot topic. The main gripe about ChatGPT is its ability aid in cheating. Yet, professors like Don Maue embrace AI, using it to enhance learning. The main goal? To prepare students for the inevitable future of an AI-driven workforce.
