Top Stories

Sam Altman Returns:

In the whirlwind saga at OpenAI, Sam Altman reclaims his CEO throne, after a brief boardroom skirmish that saw the AI giant momentarily leaderless. Greg Brockman, who had exited in solidarity, also returns to the fold.

With a new board featuring Bret Taylor, Larry Summers, and Adam D’Angelo, stability seems on the horizon, as the company and its investors, including Microsoft, eye a less dramatic future. The soap opera-like episode promises a deep dive investigation, hinting that the dust hasn't fully settled. As OpenAI steadies its ship, the tech world watches, popcorn in hand, for the next act.

Google Delays Gemini:

Google is postponing the release of Gemini, its rival to OpenAI's GPT-4, until early 2024. This delay is partly due to uncertainties about Gemini's capability to match or exceed GPT-4's performance. Google initially aimed for a December release and had given a select group of companies early access, indicating progress. However, concerns remain, especially after a factual error in a demo of Bard, Google's less sophisticated LLM and a precursor to Gemini.

Gemini, Google's flagship AI, boasts five times the computational power of GPT-4 and is built on Google's advanced TPUv5 chips. It's designed for multimodal processing, handling both images and text, and can access Google's extensive proprietary data, potentially offering more accurate responses than ChatGPT-4. Despite its computational claims, the delay raises questions about Gemini's readiness.
