Judge Rules That AI Art Can’t Be Copyrighted

AI has been painting up a storm, but can It be copyrighted?

*siren noises* 🚨

Judge Beryl just dropped a new album. It’s called Nope.

Long story short, she ruled that if the image doesn’t have that “human element” then it’s a no go.

Here’s my take: What does “human element” even mean?

I get what she means, but the wording isn’t specific enough. For example, let’s say I made a beautiful AI-generated toilet seat. I download that bad boy, and then, before submitting it to the copyright people via MySpace (or whatever you do in the process) I upload a singular pixel myself.

Then does it have the “human element”, Beryl?
