🍎 Apple Goes “All In” On AI

Apple is on an AI hiring spree. The main objective? To shrink those chunky AI language models and get them running efficiently on your iPhone.

The Apple wallet runs very deep, they’re spending $22 Billion on AI research and development over 9 months.

That’s not even the craziest part. We’re witnessing a head to head competition in AI where no company currently has a clear upper hand, and as a result, the savagery of big business is showing it’s true face. They’re poaching AI/ML talent from Meta and offering biiigg salaries to join them.

Here’s my takeaway:

As you may know, I’m a bit of an Apple nerd. They got me bought in to their marketing, I can’t even lie, so I know a thing or two about Apple’s history.

This particular move reminds me of the Macintosh being built. It was a revolutionary product. Everything we know about computers now didn’t exist before the Macintosh. Computers were business facing, and it was rare that any computer would be found in everyday people’s homes.

The Macintosh came to be from a small but dedicated R&D team inside of Apple, and completely changed tech as we know it. I’d give up Frosted Flakes for a month to be a fly on the wall in their AI team.

If Apple cracks AI computing power on phones, it will unlock a new wave of apps. It’s worth considering startup ideas that were previously impossible due to computing constraints.

IBM, Hugging Face, and NASA? That’s what I call a power trio.

There’s no shortage of climate data out there. In fact, we’re looking at 250,000 terabytes by 2024.
